Domain Name -
Basically, a domain name is the root (or main) name of a web site.
HTTP -
HTTP is short for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. HTTP is the protocol the
World Wide Web uses to transfer files and web pages. When your browser
accesses a web server, it's using HTTP protocol to get instructions. That's why you see the site listed in the address bar as:
Local Computer -
When you're dealing with networks and internet stuff, you often hear about local and remote computers. A local computer is one that's in the same location you are (i.e. one you're working on). A remote computer is one you access over a network.
Kilobyte (KB)-
A unit of approximately 1000 bytes (1024 to be exact). Most download sites use kilobytes when they give file sizes.

Kernel -

A "kernel" is the main module of an operating system. Now, this one little file isn't the whole OS by any stretch, but it is the heart of it. A kernel is the first part of the operating

system to load and it stays in your computer's memory throughout your session.

It generally controls all the important operating system stuff like disk access, memory management, etc.

Megabyte (MB) -

A unit of approximately one million bytes (1,024 KB). This is the most common measure of file size.

Operating System - An operating system (OS) is the system in your computer that runs all your stuff. For most of us, Windows is our operating system. If you're using a MAC, than the Mac OS (I think that's what they call it) is your operating system.

POP3 -

POP3 (post office protocol, version 3) is a protocol for getting e-mail off of a web server. If you use Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger you're using POP3. Some web-based e-mail accounts use this protocol as well (in fact, I think you can set up Outlook Express to work with a hotmail account).

PDA - "Portable Document Format" A file format developed by Adobe Systems. PDF captures

formatting information from a variety of desktop publishing applications, making it possible to send formatted documents and have them appear on the recipient's monitor or printer as they were intended. To view a file in PDF format, you need Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free

application distributed by Adobe Systems.

1. Create a new txt file somewhere on your system, write the following
in one line: (just copy the line and paste it)

1. Start the Windows Explorer
2. Go to Tools / Folder Options / View
3. In the first section under Files and Folders, check Do not cache
thumbnails
4. Now you can search for the thumbs.db file on your computer and
remove them. No more should be created.

Change the name of your Recycle Bin

1. Start the Registry Editor

3. Make sure the check boxes of Keys, Values and Data are checked and click Find Next
4. At the first result, double-click the result and rename the "Recycle Bin" occurrence to whatever you prefer to call it
5. Press F3 or Find Next in the Find window
6. Cycle between step 4 and 5 until no more occurrences of "Recycle Bin" are found
7. Close the Registry Editor and restart windows

You can also add Rename to the right-click context menu of the recycle bin. To do so:

DESKTOP TIP FOR XP

The Windows XP special effects department can take a lot of memory and CPU time. Disabling these can increase performance. For this, go to Control Panel » System » Advanced » Performance » Settings » Visual Effects » Adjust for best performance.
Do you miss the volume control icon in the system tray? Then, go to Control Panel » Sounds and Audio Devices » Device Volume and check the Place Volume icon in the taskbar.
The Quicklaunch toolbar by default may be disabled. Enable it by going to Control Panel » Taskbar and Start Menu » Taskbar Appearance » Show Quick Launch.
You can add icons to the QuickLaunch toolbar for easy access to your favorite programs, folders, websites, etc. For this, create the shortcuts on your desktop and drag them to the QuickLaunch toolbar.

Instructions - Warning: Proceed at your own risk! Browse to C:\Windows\inf\ and make a backup copy of sysoc.inf. Then open the original file C:\Windows\inf\sysoc.inf in notepad. Go to "Edit" and select "Replace". In "Find what:" type ,hide and in "Replace with:" type , then select "Replace All", save and close the file.
